Insurance company Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota today named Fairview Southdale Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care in 2009. The hospital met the criteria by having better overall outcomes for patients and for consistency of care over time. Hospitals recognized as " Blue Distinction Centers " provide a full range of cardiac care services, including inpatient cardiac care, cardiac rehabilitation, coronary angioplasties and open-heart surgery.
The nationally known Leapfrog Group named Fairview Southdale Hospital to its list of “Highest Value” hospitals in 2008. The organization evaluated 1,220 U.S. hospitals on their quality and resource utilization scores for open-heart surgery, coronary angioplasty, treatment of heart attack and pneumonia care.
Fairview Southdale Hospital is one of 13 in the nation to make the list, which includes having a top efficiency of care score for at least three of these four procedures and conditions. 2008 is the first year the hospital has been recognized by the group.
